Today we battled nasty weather for the  Volkl NZ  Freeski Open Halfpipe. It was a 3 run final event and Megan Gunning was crowned champion with a final run score of 94.25, which separated her from the rest of the field. I came in second place, and US rider Jamie Crane-Mauzy was third. Megan threw down a huge cork 1080 in her final run blowing the judges away.

In the mens field it was Taylor Seaton of the United States who narrowly edged out Wanaka local Byron Wells in the men’s final. Canada’s Noah Bowman came in 3rd.

So two 2nd places in a week. Pretty stoked. I now have a week to train for the Volkl NZ Freeski Open Big Mountain challenge which kicks off on the 16th of August.

It’s currently puking up the mountains with the south island getting hit with a huge low system. Off to Temple Basin next week for four days filming with the Volkl crew.

Winters back… bring on the snow
